OBJECTIVES AND COMPETENCES TO BE DEVELOPED    

This subject has 3 objectives:

  • to guarantee the indispensable basic knowledge in the areas of vocabulary and structure of the English language
  • to supply specific vocabulary related to the area of studies
  • to provide knowledge on the grammar structures and sentences relevant for the future professional area

The student should develop the following skills:

  • Participating, by listening and speaking, in dialogues typical of his/her future professional area
  • Understanding texts and oral speech related to his/her area of studies
  • Writing texts about typical situations of his/her professional area

PROGRAM CONTENTS

Vocabulary

General vocabulary which can be used in various contexts of communication in the relevant professional area, acquired in the study of texts and talks on various pertinent topics, namely:

  • Covering letters
  • Making presentations
  • Handling telephone calls
  • Socializing
  • Dealing with complaints
  • Improving a service
  • Negotiating
  • What makes a good manager?
  • Good democratic governance at local level

Language Structure/Functions

Relevant grammar structures and linguistic patterns determined by the tasks of reading, listening, speaking, writing and reflecting on professional area topics, which will necessary include the following:

  • pronunciation and vocabulary differences between British and American English
  • present and past tenses
  • comparative and superlative forms
  • interrogative sentences
  • modal verbs
  • false friends

CURRICULAR UNIT - SEMINAR I

1st Year – 1st Semester

OBJECTIVES AND COMPETENCES TO BE DEVELOPED    

This Unit intends to allow students to have contact with relevant topics, with interest, relevance and timeliness of the areas of Autarchies and Local Government and related sectors, such as Intermunicipal Communities, Municipal Companies, CCDRs or other areas of interest. for Public Policies and Management and proximity government. It aims to encourage the discussion of all the key issues at each moment of the professional activity and the economic sector. The objectives of this Curricular Unit are the development of students' reflection and critical and analytical skills, individual and group work qualities, as well as the incentive of innovation and social responsibility, the study and prospecting of bibliography related to the themes presented and the use of participant observation research. Optional seminars may be developed to expand the range of skills to be developed. All seminars will be held in a master class system with guests whose curriculum is relevant, and whenever possible, of international relevance. This Unit serves as a support and complement to the other Units and aims at strengthening the competences for the Global Seminar Unit, with the purpose of contributing technically and scientifically to an enhanced quality in the elaboration of the graduation project.

The topics and invited to developed will be the responsibility of the faculty of the UC, in articulation with the Scientific Council and with the Pedagogical Council and should be intrinsically related to the topicality of the sector, namely in relation to the Autarchies, Local Government and the sectors municipalities, CCDRs, and all subjects that are within the scope of the exercise of municipal functions or other areas of interest for Public Policies and Management and proximity government. Additional seminars will be developed to provide students with skills in the fields of know-how, know-how and, in particularly, know-how, particularly in relation to relational, argumentative, projectual and rhetorical skills.

OBJECTIVES AND COMPETENCES TO BE DEVELOPED    

This UC aims to apply the marketing concepts and practices as an important management tool. It aims to expose and analyse the most used tools, based on the formulation of the marketing strategy, enabling the student to the importance of the correct application of the marketing policies, in particular in the relationship with the citizens in an autarchic environment. It intends to introduce the new operational tools of marketing, underlining its importance in the social economy. The student should understand, analyse and develop operational marketing policies and operations focused on the product (1.0), the customer (2.0) on the human being (3.0) and new consumers of the digital age (4.0). It should also develop skills in relational marketing, territorial marketing, political marketing and Public Relations that enable it to frame Digital Marketing as a traditional Marketing evolution in the face of digital migration of society and its impact on citizens and communication dynamics; should also understand how to articulate the main digital tools to structure a consistent Municipal Digital Marketing strategy.
