OBJECTIVES AND COMPETENCES TO BE DEVELOPED    

This curricular unit aims to provide students the basic skills to manipulate, correct and adjust digital images to its reproduction in print and digital media, with image editing software. Students are expected to be able to:

  • 1. organize and manage image files with resource management software;
  • 2. adjust the image file formats depending on their ultimate goal (printing, digital publishing/ multimedia and web design);
  • 3. determine the size and digital resolution best suited to the images according to their final objective;
  • 4. use the fundamental tools of image editing: selections, layers, masks, smart objects and filters;
  • 5. make conversions between colour spaces (RGB, CMYK and Grayscale);
  • 6. adjust contrast, sharpness and chromatic appearance of images using histograms, curves, filters and other tools;
  • 7. retouch and correct images (example: fashion, portrait, product, architecture, landscape).

Drawing II deepens programmatic contents of Drawing I, working on the relationship between drawing and graphic design methodologies, with a greater project dimension, translated into an increased requirement, in the exercises proposed at the conceptual, aesthetic and technical level. Through drawing, the visual and abstract approach to the world is exercised and the student is encouraged to develop his own graphic-visual language, his creativity and the ability to solve problems, both in representation and of responding to challenges especially in the area of ​​creating visual narratives.

  • 1. Mastering more tools, supports, procedures and experiencing their aesthetic potentialities and versatility;
  • 2. To develop the capacity of observation, analysis and representation of models and espacio-temporal relations between them;
  • 3. Apply consistently the linear, textural, tonal, volumetric and chromatic elements;
  • 4. Graphically translate the real, mastering the various processes of representation;

Drawing II deepens knowledge obtained in Drawing I: the use of observational and representation drawing from life will be explored in a more conceptual and experimental way. The student will acquire the freedom that allows him to interpret and distort that same reality, acquiring other forms of expression.

Audiovisual Laboratory is a theoretical and practical discipline of introductory character where its intended to familiarize the student with the basic functions and skills of the realization of audiovisual, the general grammar of narrate in ways that incorporate time as an full-size dimension, provide the theoretical and practical basic knowledge on the use a sound studio as well as the technical basis for capturing, recording, editing and sound mixing, promoting the question of cinematographic language, audiovisual and multimedia in the broadest sense.

It is intended that the student:

  • - develop critical and analytical skills in the technical and artistic fields of audiovisual production, in particular the video aspect;
  • - get a systematic understanding and be able to apply different narrative techniques;

Teaching illustration not only as more free artistic platform, with particular attention to the narrative character of images, but also integrating it into the graphic design process. Develop images that communicate visually, while exploring ideas and promoting the use of research, reference materials, models, and props for illustration, within a contemporary art and design context:

  • - promote the use of different techniques, from the pencil to the computer, helping to clarify the potential of each.
  • - explore the different structural and intellectual elements, essential to the composition in the visual arts.
  • - question stereotyped languages ​​and encourage students to develop creative and contemporary work by searching for its own visual vocabulary.
  • - encourage conceptual thinking that can be applied and developed in a problem solving process.
  • - acquire capacity for self-learning.
  • - develop a unique personal vision that encourages creativity and new ways of thiking.

Several short and medium term exercises will be developed, putting the theoretical knowledge into practice. In all of them emphasis will be placed on solving both formal and conceptual problem.

The final design will be the illustration, pagination and composition of a book (the same book for all students), including cover and back cover.

This course is intended to develop and deepen the work begun in the unit of Video / Audiovisual Laboratory, namely, to provide the student a personal research oriented space, exploring analytical, critical, creative and experimental aspects, regarding video, enabling an application of the particular grammars for each specific tool of communication, seeking to systematize the different methods and concepts used to create a narrative in the context of an audiovisual or multimedia product, encouraging the reflective and theoretical work developed in other discipline of the course.

At the end of this unit, the student should be able to prepare and realize a personal project. This project should integrate various languages ​​and expressions in multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary and / or transdisciplinary interaction to building a multimedia product.

Project - aims to reflect the knowledge acquired throughout the course, being appointed tutors for the development of students' projects in order to respond to the challenge issued by the head of the course and tutors:

Objectives structure on the value of history / thought / practice, under a great academic rigor and aim to:

  • - creative expression that synthesizes the set of steps taken by the student for degree.

OBJECTIVES AND COMPETENCES TO BE DEVELOPED    

This CU aims to enable the students to have contact with important themes, with interest, relevance and timeliness of the areas of the Design and Graphic Production and related sectors, as exemplified by the Copyright, the Digital Technologies, the industrial prospects, Creative Industries and Graphic Arts and Technologies. It aims to foster discussion of all the key issues at every moment of the professional area and the economic sector. Are also objectives of this CU the development of written and oral expression skills of the student, the individual and group work qualities, as well as the encouragement of critical analysis, study and research of literature related to the topics presented and participant observation. Optional seminars will be developed aimed to increasing the range of skills to develop. All seminars will be held in 'master class' system with guests whose resume and experience is quite relevant, and wherever possible, of international relevance. This course serves as support and complement to the Project CU, with the aim of contributing technically and scientifically for the quality enhancement in preparing the 'degree thesis'.

The topics and guests will be proposed by CU responsible teacher, in conjunction with the Scientific Council and the Pedagogical Council and should be intrinsically related to the timeliness of the sector, particularly as it relates to the creative industries, Information and communication technologies, the Technologies and Graphic Arts, the Digital technologies and the Design. Additional seminars will be developed aimed to provide students with skills in the areas of know-what, know-how and particularly the self-know, particularly regarding relational skills, argumentative, projective and rhetoric.
