INFORMATION

PRESIDENT
Maria Cristina Ventura, PhD

Officially recognized in August 1991, ISEC Lisboa - Higher Institute of Education and Sciences, is defined as a private non-profit higher education and research establishment whose institutional mission is to provide scientific, technical, cultural, pedagogical, professional and human training. As an institution of public interest, ISEC aims for growth driven by the national needs as well as the objectives that it statutorily pursues, thus contributing to the qualified, integrated and harmonious development of higher education in Portugal.

This mission is mainly accomplished through a training project guided by high standards and inspired by ethical and humanist principles, to prepare citizens of culture and competent professionals. The adequacy of a training project to quality professional performance depends largely on the integration of scientifically produced knowledge. This is why the learning experience marked by intellectual curiosity and the spirit of research represents, in our educational project, a strategy for integrating theoretical and practical knowledge, critical reflection and lifelong professional development.

SYSTEM OF DEGREES AND EVALUATION METHODS

System of Degrees

The Portuguese system of higher education is binary one, as it encompasses universities and polytechnic institutions, and its structure is based on 4 cycles: a cycle of short-term studies that do not confer a degree, and 3 study cycles that confer the degrees of licentiate, master and doctor. (Figure representing the Portuguese Higher Education System).

At ISEC Lisboa, we offer the short-term study cycle (CTeSP) and 2 cycles conferring Bachelor and Master degrees.

Evaluation methods

Continuous evaluation

1. Continuous Evaluation is the cumulative and constant evaluation of all the work done by the student as he/she actively participates in collective or individual academic activities with a view to acquire and develop knowledge and skills, according to the goals of each course.
2. Continuous evaluation is the main system that functions during academic periods and it is based on the different kinds of tasks set for each academic subject (participation in collective and tutorial sessions, fieldwork, projects, autonomous study, and evaluation tests).

3. The following may be part of continuous evaluation:

a) attendance and participation in classes or other teaching activities that take place;

b) written tests;

c) individual or group assignments and projects about topics suggested or approved by teachers;

d) participation in initiatives and work developed in class, as well as seminars and oriented research;

e) oral presentations;

f) organisation and participation in conferences, seminars and talks considered relevant by teachers;

g) organisation and participation in field trips organised by teachers.

4. Students should be subject to face-to-face evaluation after every 15 hours of teaching.

5. Of the evaluation components mentioned in point 3, there should result two written documents for annual subjects and one written document for semestral subjects, except in cases where the nature of the subject invalidates this rule.

6. At least one of the components of evaluation should be conducted face-to-face.

7. In continuous evaluation, teachers may establish different weighting for the several components as well as the minimum grade to succeed in each particular element, provided that students are evaluated in all the contents of the programme, and as long as that this information is clearly stated on the Curricular Unit Programme (FUC).

8. According to the number of units it confers, each curricular unit implies a certain amount of work by students, and the teacher has to define a set of competencies (knowledge and skills) to be acquired, in association with the different tasks that students should perform. It is also for the teacher to determine the nature and number of components that comprise the continuous evaluation process in each academic year, as well as their weighting in the final classification that students obtain in each subject or curricular unit, according to the principles explained above in points 3, 4, 5, 6 e 7. That information should be clearly stated on the programme (FUC), and the programme should be made available to students within the first 10 (ten) days of the term.

10. At the beginning of each term, teachers must inform students and course coordination of the set of evaluation criteria that they will adopt in each curricular unit, as well as the dates of the tests, which should respect the academic calendar.

11. The evaluation criteria adopted by each teacher have to allow for the compliance with deadlines fixed by the academic calendar, namely for disclosure of final classifications, filling in official classification forms, registering for exams, enrolling, etc.

12. Successful conclusion of a subject depends on a positive general evaluation of the work conducted by the student, which should show clearly that he/she has acquired the required competencies for that curricular unit.

13. Partial grades obtained by students in each curricular unit are expressed by the teacher in qualitative and/or quantitative terms, and their final classification should correspond to a numerical value between 0 zero) and 20 (twenty) (accompanied by the European scale of comparability of classifications), rounded to the upper whole unit, which can be associated with the following descriptions:

a) Less than 10: Insufficient (fail);

b) Between 10 and 13: Sufficient;

c) 14 and 15: Good;

d) 16 and 17: Very good

e) From 18 to 20: Excellent.

14. Students who have duly enrolled in the curricular units and have no administrative or financial pending situations have the right to be informed by teachers of their partial classifications within no more than 15 week days after being subject to the respective evaluation component.

15. Students pass when they obtain a grade of 9.5 or more, rounded to the upper whole unit.

Evaluation through examination

1. Students who have failed or wish to improve their classification in a subject may be evaluated through a final examination.

2. In some curricular units, namely subjects that involve traineeship, projects, seminars, activities conducted in cooperating institutions, supervised teaching practice, and other curricular units listed in the Regulating Documents for the different courses, students may not be evaluated through a final exam.

3. Failing to pass traineeships, projects, seminars, activities in cooperating institutions, including supervised teaching practice, implies that the student will have to enrol, attend, and be subject to continuous evaluation in the respective curricular unit once more.

4. Examinations may be comprised by written tests, oral tests, written and oral tests, and observation of competencies. In foreign language units, a written and oral test is compulsory.

5. Oral tests should always be conducted by a jury of at least three teachers.

6. Regular examination periods are:

a) 1st period, 1st semester – in February: for 1st semester subjects;

b) 2nd period, 2nd semester – in July: for 2nd semester subjects and annual subjects;

c) 2nd period – in July and September, restricted to working-students and/or final year students, for 1st and 2nd semester subjects and annual subjects.

d) Special period for senior students – in November / December, for students who have only 2 subjects left to finish their degree.

7. The length of the exams should be adjusted to the specific requirements of each curricular unit, and students should be informed about the time limit.

8. Students who have completed at least 100 ECTS credit units may do or repeat exams in any of the periods fixed in the academic calendar.

9. Students will pass an exam if their classification equals, or is higher than, 9.5, rounded to the upper whole unit.

10. Final examination classifications must be disclosed within 5 days after the exam takes place.

Ângelo Almeida
Universidade de Obuda / Budapeste, Hungria / 1º Semestre 2020/21

Hungria como destino de Erasmus é, sem dúvida, uma excelente opção. Budapeste é a cidade do Erasmus!

I can tell, this was one of the best periods of my life, I met a lot of new friends and I visited a lot of amazing places in Portugal so I’m really grateful for this opportunity. At this school I got totally different education than what I have at home and it brought me out from my comfort zone in art, moreover our teachers were really friendly with us and I met a really helpful girl from my class.

I participated in this exchange with my friend from Hungary and this time with together made our friendship stronger also. We rented a room in Lapa and we had some problems with it, but the society was so wonderful, so I think it was the best decision to live there. First, it was hard to calculate our money, but after a month we learnt how to get organized, so I feel more adult now.

If someone is in doubt to do Erasmus in Lisbon, I say don’t hesitate to go because this country is perfect for it!

The Erasmus experience was a program with a lot of novelties to me. I had the opportunity to visit different countries and see interactions with different cultures. In addition, in Lisbon-Portugal, where I lived for nearly 5 months. I had the chance to examine daily life, cultures, history and different languages and to see and experience their use in daily life. In addition, since the city I lived and the Student residence -Recall where I stayed, is a very cosmopolitan place. I met people from different countries and acknowledged their life styles and perspectives. With all this, I started to understand the value of this experience, because I was away from my family and my country. I strongly recommend the Erasmus program in Portugal and ISEC Lisboa to all those who have the opportunity and for all these reasons I shall remember my experiences and keep them throughout my life.

Erasmus is one of the right decisions I made in my life. First of all, I would like to talk about people. Everyone was very friendly, respectful, polite and non-racist in Portugal. This was the motivation for developing my language and learning new cultures. I had the opportunity to visit many European countries. I can think of a wider frame now. Apart from all these, I think I have improved myself in education. I have made progress in my English. I recommend everyone who has the opportunity to do Erasmus.

> What did you like most about ISEC Lisboa?
Good Erasmus support! I really loved the Campus dormitory – RECALL!
Would you recommend ISEC Lisboa to a fellow colleague?
Yes! Of course!
In what way was this mobility important to you?
I made many Turkish new friends, but also from other countries. I also improved my English skills.

First of all, I want to thank you. You were so nice to us. You are the only person who speeds up the process of getting used to Portugal. I can't put it in sentences that how Lucky I am. I am so happy to choose Portugal for Erasmus because the city, school, teachers were amazing. The teachers were so kind to us and they really tried to help us. Another subject that I was lucky was the dormitory. Because it was enough to wake up just 5 minutes before the lesson. As you know, Erasmus students need sleep during the day, not night. I have so much more to say, but at least thank you all. I am very happy to do my Erasmus with you. You made the Erasmus beautiful.

> What did you like most about ISEC Lisboa?
I Liked the teachers and the lessons.
Would you recommend ISEC Lisboa to a fellow colleague?
Yes, of course!
In what way was this mobility important to you?
I appreciated the culture, made a lot of new friends and noticed that I self-improved.

The first semester at ISEC was fine for me. Our Erasmus coordinator at ISEC communicated with us very friendly. The teachers made a friendly welcome. It was not difficult for me to comply with ISEC. Everyone was very helpful.

The second semester was full of fear, as everyone knows. ISEC took early measures regarding Covid-19. We continued classes online. With this early measure of ISEC, I managed to complete the second semester in a healthy way. I will always remember ISEC. Thank you very much to the academic staff for giving me this unforgettable experience.

Mert Can Canbaz

My name is Mert Can CANBAZ, I was an Erasmus student at ISEC LISBOA between 26/02/2020 – 29/06/2020.

I’ll tell my Erasmus experience at ISEC LISBOA that was struck by the quarantine (due to COVID-19) and therefore classes had to be online.

The first month before the quarantine, I was attending classes freely. Professors helped me a lot, as an Erasmus student, because at ISEC LISBOA the teaching language is not English. It’s completely in Portuguese language. But the professors were teaching me in English and they gave me documents about my department also in the English language. So, I can say to everyone who is thinking of going to ISEC Lisboa as an Erasmus student can relax, because the people in administrative affairs, Erasmus coordinator and dormitory coordinator inside the Campus (Recall) are very helpful and peaceful.

After the quarantine started, all students of ISEC Lisboa started to take the online classes. They were are also prepared for the Erasmus students. Some teachers continued teaching in the English language, even in online classes. Some other teachers gave homework and projects. I mean the organization of online classes was very professional both local students and Erasmus students.

At the same time, most of the homework and presentations were a little bit difficult. But this may vary by department!

Campus facilities were also enough. I stayed at the dormitory that is inside the school´s Campus during the whole Erasmus mobility. The other residents were also peaceful and friendly people. (the dormitory (RECALL) was nearly empty because of the COVID-19), but the cleaning services of dormitory continued daily for all the quarantine period.

The security of campus worked for all quarantine time and they helped me when I needed help for anything.

In short, ı was in Lisbon and studied at ISEC LISBOA even though the quarantine happened everything was nice for me.

Thank you for everything.

Irene Maria Allegri Olmo

Hola!

I can say that the Erasmus mobility was the only experience I will never forget in my life!

Thanks to Erasmus, I experienced that the city of Lisbon is more than it was described. It is an historical place that hosts many nations and it was unforgettable. My school, ISEC Lisboa, helped me in everything and all the school’s staff and others helped me in a hospitable manner, without difficulty. I can say that I am in love with other Portuguese cities besides Lisbon. It is worth noting that each city has a different atmosphere. (Porto, Aveiro, Braga, some of them). The nightlife, beaches, activities, I will never forget the friendships I have gained from many nations. It was also enjoyable for me to taste the local flavours (Pastel de Nata, Bacalhau and Porto Wine is my favourite trilogy). Finally, I want to add my favourite Erasmus quote; "Once Erasmus Always Erasmus"

Olá everyone! I am Berfin from Turkey, I did my exchange during the 2019-2020 academic year at ISEC Lisboa. Erasmus at Lisboa was my dream when I started university and I could not guess that “my Erasmus” could be so beautiful. I am very happy to have done my exchange in ISEC Lisboa, people are amazing there, they are so helpful and hospitable. Especially Ms. Alagoa, she was so nice and kind. I believe, thanks to her energy, we became a family with all my Erasmus friends and we enjoyed so much together. When I started that journey, I was confused because it was the first time I left my comfort zone, but Lisbon is a great city full of beautiful things, I felt like I was home. This experience has changed my view of the world quite a lot, it gave me a lot.
I will miss the good times always, with all my heart. Eu te amo Lisboa!
